- Independent Study is intended to be a field, laboratory, or library research experience. PLSC 3999 or 5899 may not be used as a substitute for courses offered in the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture. Furthermore, Independent Study shall not be used as a mechanism for students to obtain credit for a regular course offering.
- A
Memorandum of Agreement, including the following, will be required for course approval by the department head:
a. Title
b. Preliminary statement of objectives, plan of work and expected date of completion.
c.
Credits and time inputs expected. Credits will be assigned on a laboratory basis. Therefore, a minimum of 42 hours of unsupervised work will be required for each credit. If work is supervised, a minimum of 28 hours of work will be required for each credit. (Note: it is easier to reduce credits after the fact than to increase them, when entering a final grade on the StudentAdmin system.)
d. Nature of final report, presentation or other work product.
- The Memorandum of Agreement must be submitted to the department head with the signed Independent Study Authorization form required by the Office of the Registrar.
- The Independent Study Authorization must be completed within the Regular Add/Drop period for the semester. The CANR Dean’s Office of Academic Programs will deny requests to add Independent Study after the fourth week of classes.
- The final report, presentation or other work product shall be available for departmental review.
