The Department of Plant Science offers M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs for graduate students with areas of concentration in Agronomy (primarily turfgrass science), Horticulture (including plant molecular biology and biotechnology), Plant Breeding (including genetic recombination), and Soil Science, and the M.S. in Landscape Architecture.  Basic requirements for admission are set by the Graduate School. Admission to programs in the Department generally requires the Graduate Record Examination General Test. A faculty advisor willing to accommodate the student must be identified before an application can be considered. Applications may be submitted at any time, but applicants are urged to apply by April 1 for the fall semester and by September 1 for the spring semester. Requirements for advanced degrees are established by the Graduate School. Graduate studies in the Department of Plant Science are based on faculty research projects. The student’s advisory committee determines the required coursework and subject and scope of the research.
Financial aid is available from graduate assistantships and scholarships. Most graduate students in the department receive graduate assistantships, either from departmental funds or from external grants. Graduate assistants are also granted a waiver of tuition.
Research facilities include laboratories, field locations, nursery and greenhouse facilities. Most laboratories are recently constructed or renovated and are well equipped. |
