Research Interests

Integrated Pest Management (IPM): IPM is a comprehensive program for effectively controlling pests while minimizing the costs and adverse environmental effects. Current research areas include both insect and weed control programs. Emphasis with insect IPM is on the development of pest monitoring systems, population dynamics, and the biological and cultural control of certain insect pests of fruit and vegetable crops. Weed IPM research concerns efforts to predict weed populations based on soil nutrient samples and weed seed counts.

Vegetable Crops: Nitrogen management studies are being conducted on vegetable crops with the goal of minimizing nitrate contamination of groundwater.

Weed Science: Emphasis on weed crop associations in vegetable crops, modeling of weed populations and development of chemical and non-chemical controls.

Work Experience

1996 - present: Co-coordinator (with Loraine Los) of IPM Program, UConn.
1982 - present: Professor, UConn.
1974 - 1982: Assoc. Professor, UConn.
1968 - 1974: Asst. Professor, UConn.
