Food SafetyThe University of Connecticut College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, including the Cooperative Extension System, provides food safety training, education and information to consumers, farmers, food processors and foodservice providers.
Expanded Food and Nutrition Education ProgramSince 1968, EFNEP has been funded by he United States Department of Agriculture and is an integral part of the University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension System. Currently, it is one of the federal government’s longest running educational outreach programs targeted to low-income families
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed)The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), through the Food Stamp Act of 1977, as amended, provides for the operation of the Food Stamp Program in the State of Connecticut. The State of Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) has been designated by the USDA to administer the State's SNAP-Ed activities and DSS in turn has contracted with UConn and the CT Department of Public Health to design and implement the SNAP-Ed projects. Under this contract, the USDA has authorized the University of Connecticut's Department of Allied Health Sciences to administer, design, develop implement and evaluate a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed) plan based on the following objectives.
Center for Eliminating Health Disparities among LatinosThe mission of The Connecticut Center for Eliminating Health Disparities among Latinos(CEHDL) is to contribute to the elimination of health disparities among Latino(a)s through the formation of human resources, community-based research, and culturally appropriate outreach/extension.
STRONG-CTOur nation is facing a critical shortfall in scientists. The National Science Foundation has made the recruitment and retention of a diverse population of science students a key priority. In Connecticut, this has translated into a major new academic support program for life science students, STRONG-CT, Science and Technology: Reaching Out to New Generations in Connecticut. A Dynamic collaboration between University of Connecticut and three community colleges: Manchester Community College, Three Rivers Community College, and Quinebaug Community College.
