Established in 1996, the Wildlife Conservation Research Center is privately funded within the University system.  The purpose of the center is to provide wildlife conservation research on behalf of the people of Connecticut and elsewhere.  The center blends research mission with education and outreach goals, drawing upon facilities and resources of the land grant university with the flexibility of private support.  State, Federal, and private funding are used as contracted and appropriate to specific research project objectives and partnerships.  The center aspires to become self-sustaining through endowment growth.

Goals.....

To conduct scientific research which addresses ecological needs of wildlife

To use scientific research in fostering enlightened stewardship of wildlife resources

To enhance public knowledge of wildlife values, conservation principles, and sound management practices by providing access to quality information products

To promote cooperation and high professional standards for wildlife research and conservation among resource users, managers, agencies, educators and the public.

Our Vision is for a self- supporting, non-profit, centralized source of scientific information for wildlife conservation.  The center features attentiveness to holistic concepts and maintenance of a "biotic integrity".  We assemble resources necessary for investigating, understanding and managing wildlife species, populations and biotic communities.

The center has the ability to interact with skilled research personnel and has access to a wide range of resources  worldwide and right here at UCONN,  including the Environmental Research Institute and the Department of Pathobiology. Our mission is to provide the information needed to conserve wildlife by means of scientific research, educational opportunities, and outreach activities.
