First Call for Presentations

3rd Connecticut Conference on Natural Resources
Monday, March 9th 2009, University of Connecticut, Storrs/Mansfield, Connecticut

You are invited to share your projects, research and presentations with the audience at the 2nd Connecticut Conference on Natural Resources.  The conference is organized around multi-disciplinary themes that represent current natural resource/environmental issues facing Connecticut.  Please review the themes and consider how your presentation fits when  submitting an abstract.

Presentations are called for in the following themes:

Theme 1. Coupled Human and Natural Ecosystems

POTENTIAL TOPICS: urban ecology, city fishing programs, urban forests, water supply management, watershed quality, forest conversion, . . .

 

Theme 2. Biodiversity: A Conservation Status Report

POTENTIAL TOPICS: Evaluation of Comprehensive State Wildlife Conservation Plan implementation projects and impacts, Natural History Survey programs, sensitive and priority land protection and acquisitions, Endangered Species Committee revised list and reports, greatest conservation need species' ecology, . . .

 

Theme 3. Sustainability: Research, Education and Outreach

POTENTIAL TOPICS: Legislative initiatives and government programs, LID, green roofs, town planning
and zoning, local food programs, community gardening, Grow Native! initiatives and activities, alternative energy, . . .

 

Theme 4. Remote Sensing & GIS applied to Natural Resources Management

POTENTIAL TOPICS: Geo-spatial techniques, planning, sea level rise planning, data management and sharing, reaching and serving towns and municipalities, . . .

 

Theme 5. Southern New England's Grasslands

POTENTIAL TOPICS: Geological history, distribution, classification, floral and faunal composition, and management of grasslands in southern New England, . . .

 

You may submit for one of the following formats:

  • A 20 minute presentation which will be scheduled with related presentations in the same theme
  • A poster display
  • A 1.5 hour workshop or activity that features audience participation

Abstracts are restricted to 250 words and must be emailed to: ccnr2009@gmail.com

In the subject line of the email please write: “CCNR Abstract Submission”

In the body of the email include in this order:

  • Presenter’s name and affiliation
  • Presenter’s address, phone, and email
  • Co-authors and affiliations as needed
  • Presentation title (60 character limit, including spaces)
  • Indicate preference for a 20 min presentation, poster display, or 1.5 hour workshop
  • 250 word abstract
  • Indicate the theme most appropriate for this presentation

The deadline for submission is January 31st, 2008
