Dean's update

January 9, 2009

I hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday break and that you are well rested and ready to tackle the challenges of the new year. This will be an active spring as we complete our strategic plan and develop plans to meet anticipated budget challenges in the coming fiscal year. Tight budgets should not deter us from developing a visionary plan that moves us forward as a college once our nation recovers from these difficult economic conditions. While we will not know the direct budget impact of the state budget challenges on our college for some time yet, we must have plans in place to meet anticipated budget shortfalls.I have been working with the associate deans and our business office to look at every possible means to minimize the impact on our programs. Fortunately, we have been disciplined in managing our resources in anticipation of budget challenges ahead. During times such as these, rumors begin to fly. I will do my best to keep everyone fully informed as I receive specific information regarding our budget. Despite the distractions that such times bring, we need to maintain a positive attitude and focus on the things we can control.
