Dietetics Program

Registered Dietitians are health professionals who apply the science of nutrition through the art of dietetic practice. They work with individuals and groups in the selection of foods for adequate nutrition to meet nutrient requirements and sustain health; assist individuals and groups in the development of healthy lifestyles for wellness and disease prevention; and provide medical nutrition therapy as the nutrition-based treatment for diseases and conditions. The Coordinated Program in Dietetics is the undergraduate program of study that combines the coursework and supervised practice hours necessary to prepare students for entry-level practice as dietitians. The Dietetic Internship is the post-bachelors degree professional training program that provides graduates of a Didactic Program in Dietetics with the supervised practice hours to prepare for entry-level practice as dietitians. Additional information about the dietetics profession can be found on the websites of the American Dietetic Association [www.eatright.org] and the Connecticut Dietetic Association [www.dietetics.com/cda].
