Admission: Declaring a major in the Department of Allied Health Sciences
Admission procedures to the Department of Allied Health Sciences vary with programs.
Incoming freshmen: Freshmen are admitted into the Department of Allied Health Sciences as Allied Health Sciences (AHS) majors. Students are advised in the department. During the spring of the sophomore year or after completion of a minimum of 45 credits, student many remain an Allied Health Sciences major, may further define this major by petition into a concentration within the Allied Health Sciences major or apply to a Professional Program (admission to a concentration within the AHS major or to a professional program is not automatic; refer to major/program admission information).
Continuing or Transfer Students: Students are admitted into the Department of Allied Health Sciences as Allied Health Sciences (AHS) majors. Students are advised in the department. Following completion of a minimum of 45 credits, student many remain an Allied Health Sciences major, may further define this major by petition into a concentration within the Allied Health Sciences major or apply to a Professional Program (admission to a concentration within the AHS major or to a professional program is not automatic; refer to major/program admission information).
Please note: Students do not need to be Allied Health Sciences majors prior to application to a professional program.
Allied Health Sciences Major – requires a petition form. Petitions forms are accepted on a rolling basis. The petition form differs depending on whether you are a current student in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) or whether you are a current student in another School or College within the University.

In addition to the petition form, students must:
- Include an unofficial transcript
- Write a one paragraph personal statement regarding career option and why this major is a fit
- Meet with an advisor in the Allied Health Academic Advising Center to review petition and requirements of the major (click here).

Professional Program admission (Dietetics, Diagnostic Genetic Sciences and Medical Technology) – requires a supplemental application. Students do not need to be Allied Health Sciences majors prior to application to a professional program. Admission is competitive with limited enrollment. Applications are accepted once per year (deadline February 1) for a fall admission. Please refer to the admission information below regarding required application and supplemental documentation. Please refer to the program for specific admission requirements.
