Dean's update

November 24 , 2008

Last week the Board of Trustees approved changing the name of the Department of Natural Resources Management and Engineering to the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment. I am very pleased that the UConn administration and the Board approved this change, which better reflects the current and future focus of the department.

The College administrative team visited the Staebners at Blue Slope Farm in Franklin on November 18. The Staebners are great supporters of the College and 4-H. They maintain an active dairy operation, trucking operation and farm museum. Visits such as this provide a very valuable learning experiences for the entire administrative team and give us a renewed perspective on the needs of our stakeholders.

This past Friday we held our first annual fall faculty reception, where we introduced new faculty who joined us this past fall to their colleagues and emeritus faculty. This event was a great opportunity to welcome our new members of the CANR family and to socialize as a College faculty. We hope to continue this event as a new College tradition. As we enter the final few days prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, let me wish everyone a great Thanksgiving.
